Research Notes on Psoriatic Patches
Bright red areas of skin that are typically itchy and covered with loose, silvery scales are known as psoriatic patches. Psoriatic patches may have mild scaling, or the area may become thick and crusty. Psoriatic patches may cover a large or small area of the body, and they can occur anywhere. The location of the psoriatic patches may help your physician determine which type of psoriasis you have.1
Fast Facts:
- Small, water-drop-shaped psoriatic patches on the arms, legs, and scalp may indicate guttate psoriasis.2
- Inverse psoriasis is characterized by psoriatic patches in the folds of the skin in areas such as the stomach, breasts, and armpits.2
- Pustular psoriasis and plaque psoriasis may have large or small psoriatic patches over any part of the body.2
