Research Notes on Psoriasis and Sunlight
Many people find sunlight can be helpful in the treatment of psoriasis. Regular exposure for five to ten minutes at a time may be best. Exposure can be gradually increased by thirty seconds at a time. All areas of the skin that are affected by psoriasis should receive equal exposure to the sun.1
Fast Facts:
- Improvement in psoriasis is seen in eighty percent of those who have regular exposure to the sun.2
- Sunburn should be avoided since it can worsen psoriasis and increase the risk of developing skin cancer.2
- At least once or twice a year, it is advisable to have your doctor examine your skin for signs of skin cancer or skin damage from sun exposure.3
