Research Notes on Psoriasis and Omega-3 Fatty Acids
There are some studies that support the consumption of omega-3 fatty acids for the treatment of symptoms associated with psoriasis.1 It is thought that psoriasis may be caused in part by a problem with the way the body handles oil, or a lack thereof in the diet itself.1 Consuming a fatty acid in fish, known as EPA (eicosapentanoic acid), may penetrate each cell membrane, making it more bendable and adaptable, and provide relief of the symptoms psoriasis patients suffer from.1
Fast Facts:
- Ingesting large amounts of fish oil can lead to excessive levels of vitamins A and D.2
- When using fish oil as treatment, you should start slowly and gradually increase your dose.3
- Some fish species high in omega-3 fatty acids include trout, mackerel, and salmon.1
