Research Notes on Psoriasis and Itching
Itching is the second most common complaint of psoriasis patients (the first is scaling).1 Unfortunately, there is no cure for the itch, just as there is no cure for psoriasis. That does not mean, though, that there is nothing you can do to effectively treat the itch. Over-the-counter antihistamines, corticosteroids, and anesthetics are useful in treating psoriasis itch.1
Fast Facts:
- Cool showers and baths may be helpful. Oatmeal or baking soda added to bath water can help to alleviate itchy psoriasis.2
- Keeping your skin soft and moisturized can decrease itching.3
- To decrease the itch of scalp psoriasis, try using a shampoo made for dry scalp.3
