Research Notes on Psoriasis Lesions
There are five major types of psoriasis with each type having different lesion characteristics. When the skin is traumatized, a psoriasis patient may see new lesions develop in the affected area. Psoriasis patients shed skin cells every three to four days building up excess skin which causes lesions.1 Lesions can affect different areas of the body and are classified as either asymptomatic or mildly pruritic.2
Fast Facts:
- A healthy individual will shed their skin cells approximately every 28 days.1
- Most common areas affected by psoriasis lesions are scalp, elbows, knees, sacrum, buttocks, and penis.2
- Types of psoriasis include erythrodermic psoriasis, guttate psoriasis, inverse psoriasis, plaque psoriasis, and pustular psoriasis.1
