Research Notes on Provigil Dosage


As with all medications, your physician will consider many things prior to prescribing Provigil, including your overall medical history, age, and weight. For those patients being treated for narcolepsy or sleep apnea, the typical dosage of Provigil is 200 mg once daily, taken in the morning. When treating shift work sleep disorder, 200 mg is taken approximately one hour prior to their work shift starting. A lower 100 mg dosage of Provigil is generally prescribed to elderly patients, or those suffering from liver disease. Although not approved by the FDA, Provigil is also sometime used for the treatment of ADHD, depression, and chronic fatigue.1

  • If you forget to take your dosage of Provigil, eliminate it completely and return to your normal dosing schedule.2
  • Treatment with Provigil is generally temporary, lasting for approximately 12 weeks or less.3
