Research Notes on Prostate Cancer
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the U.S. today. The prostate (often misspelled "prostrate") is a walnut-sized gland located below the bladder. Not all men with prostate cancer need treatment, and most men who have it do not die from the disease.1
Fast Facts:
- Some prostate cancers can grow and spread quickly, but most prostate cancers grow slowly.1
- Many doctors believe that prostate cancer begins with a pre-cancerous condition called prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia (PIN), which can appear in some men as early as their 20s.2
- A PSA test is a screening test for prostate cancer that can be done quickly and easily in the doctor's office.3
