Research Notes on Propofol
Propofol is a medication that is sometimes used to induce sleep or loss of consciousness for short periods of time, such as for diagnostic tests or surgical procedures. Propfol is only used in a health care setting as close monitoring of the patient is critical. Side effects of propofol can include difficulty breathing, changes in heart rhythm, and dizziness.1

- Propofol is administered via intravenous drip.2
- Prolonged, high dose infusions of propofol can result in Propofol Infusion Syndrome.2
- Diprivan is the brand name medication of propfol.2
