Prolapsed Uterus

Research Notes on Prolapsed Uterus

Uterine prolapse occurs when the uterus drops from its normal position in the pelvic cavity and descends into and sometimes outside the vagina in the most serious cases. Weakness in the muscles and ligaments of the pelvic floor can cause loss of uterine support and lead to uterine prolapse.1

Fast Facts:

  • Pregnancy, childbirth, obesity and chronic coughing and lifting are some risk factors.1
  • With mild prolapse, you may not have any symptoms.2
  • Treatment depends on how weak the supporting structures around your uterus have become.3
