The most common type of hormone producing tumor, prolactinomas are benign tumors of the pituitary gland. Producing prolactin, the tumors can cause infertility and breast discharge in women even when they are relatively small in size. In men, most prolactinomas are not diagnosed until the man complains of frequent headaches or visual disturbances.
