Research Notes on Probiotics in Yogurt
Yogurt and other fermented dairy products (such as kefir) are excellent foods, high in protein and calcium. The "Live & Active Culture" seal from the National Yogurt Association is the best way to assure yourself that a certain number of bacteria survived processing,although some may have perished since. Yogurts which have been heat-treated after fermentation do not contain live bacteria.
