Prenatal care is healthcare received during a pregnancy in order to keep the mother and baby healthy. This care may be provided by a doctor, midwife, or other healthcare professional.
Fast Facts:
- During the first six months of pregnancy you should see your healthcare provider about once each month.
- During the seventh and eighth months of pregnancy you should see your healthcare provider every two weeks.
- During the ninth month of pregnancy, you should see your healthcare provider weekly.
- Babies of mothers who do not get prenatal care are three times more likely to have a low birth weight.
