Research Notes on Pregnancy and Depression
Depression during pregnancy is called perinatal depression. It is one of the most common pregnancy complications. Often, depression during pregnancy is not treated, because some the symptoms of depression are the same as pregnancy symptoms: being tired, problems sleeping, strong emotional reactions and changes in body weight.1
Fast Facts:
- Out of every 10 women who are pregnant, one or two have symptoms of major depression.2
- Depression during pregnancy is treatable.3
- Without treatment, the depression can get worse or be harmful to the baby or mother.3
