Research Notes on Pregnancy Protein May Reduce Breast Cancer Risk
Researchers have concluded that hormones released during pregnancy are responsible for elevating the level of a particular protein in the body that is known to block the growth of cancer cells. After studying the effects of hormones in rats with a high risk of breast cancer, researchers directly exposed cancer cells to alpha-fetoprotein and discovered the growth of the cancer cells was blocked. Research is ongoing, but the new discovery may be responsible for promising new treatments.1
