Research Notes on Preeclampsia Treatment
If preeclampsia develops when it is too early to deliver your baby, you may be put on bed rest. Depending on your specific situation and severity of the preeclampsia, bed rest may be ordered at home or in the hospital.1 If you are near your date of delivery or in severe cases of preeclampsia, your doctor may recommend inducing labor or ordering a cesarean section.2
Fast Facts:
- Medication to lower blood pressure, corticosteroids, and anticonvulsive medications such as magnesium sulfate may be used in treating preeclampsia.2
- Delivery of the baby is the only way to cure preeclampsia.1
- If you have had preeclampsia, your doctor may see you more often in any subsequent pregnancies.2
