Research Notes on Preeclampsia Prevention
There is currently no way to prevent preeclampsia. Pregnant women should keep all prenatal appointments so that physicians can detect signs of preeclampsia earlier to avoid unnecessary complications.1 Taking certain vitamins, such as vitamin D may help lower the risk of developing preeclampsia.2
Fast Facts:
- Avoiding caffeine, alcohol, salt, and junk food may also be beneficial in preventing preeclampsia.3
- Common symptoms of preeclampsia include headaches, weight gain, and swelling of the hands or feet.4
- Preeclampsia normally occurs after the 20th week of pregnancy.4
