Research Notes on Pollen Allergy
A pollen allergy is a type of seasonal allergic rhinitis that is often referred to as hay fever. Pollen allergies are caused by particles from trees, weeds, and grass entering the nose and throat. Pollen is the most widespread of all allergens.1 It is recommended to try to avoid pollen by staying indoors when pollen counts are high.2
Fast Facts:
- Runny nose, sneezing, and watery eyes are the most common symptoms of pollen allergies.3
- Ragweed produces the highest amount of pollen and is estimated to cause up to 75% of all pollen allergies.4
- The worst times to go outside for pollen allergy sufferers is 5:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.4
- The best time to avoid pollen outdoors is after a heavy rain.4
