Research Notes on Pneumonia in Newborns
Pneumonia is an inflammatory illness of the lungs. It is the leading cause of death in worldwide in children under 5.1 Newborns tend to get pneumonia from respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and group B streptococcus (GBS). Symptoms may include fever, coughing, and problems breathing. Depending on the type of pneumonia your newborn has it may be treated with antibiotics or just rest and fluids. Oxygen may also be given when breathing becomes a problem.2
