Pneumonia is an infection of the lung, common among all age groups but often fatal to those who are elderly or terminally ill. It can be brought on by viruses, fungi, or bacteria. In pneumonia, the air sacs of the lungs fill up with liquid, making breathing difficult. This can lower the amount of oxygen in the bloodstream, and even lead to death. 1
