Research Notes on Play Therapy
Play therapy is a therapy strategy that can be used with children from ages three to 11. It allows the child to express his or herself through playing.1 The play time allows for creativity and employment of the child's imagination that assist in psychological healing.2 Using this method, a trained therapist will observe the child's play, and attempt to help the child resolve psychosocial difficulties.3
Fast Facts:
- This method is often used as a diagnosis tool.1
- The therapist is able to give the child coping strategies through play.2
- Recent research suggests that 71% of the children referred to play therapy will show a positive change.2
