Research Notes on Plavix Uses
Plavix is used to prevent the formation of blood clots in individuals who have recently suffered a heart attack or stroke. Plavix may also be used patients who suffer from severe angina that requires hospitalization. Patients who suffer from peripheral artery disease may also have Plavix recommended as a treatment.1
Fast Facts:
- Plavix is not FDA approved to be used following surgical procedures, though some physicians prescribe the medication in this manner. When a medication is prescribed in a manner not approved by the FDA, its use is considered off-label.1
- Plavix is often used in conjunction with other medications to prevent blood clots.1
- Plavix is a brand name of the generic medication clopidogrel.2
