Research Notes on Plaque Psoriasis Diagnosis
Plaque psoriasis is the most common type of psoriasis and affects approximately one to two percent of people in the United States.1 Diagnosis of plaque psoriasis includes a medical examination, medical history, and a skin biopsy.2 The areas most affected by plaque psoriasis include knees, elbows, and scalp.3 Plaques, salmon colored rashes, silver scales, and oval symmetry are the most common characteristics of plaque psoriasis.1

- Approximately 5.5 million people in the United States are diagnosed with plaque psoriasis.1
- A child has a 50 percent chance of developing psoriasis if both parents have psoriasis.1
- Topical medications, phototherapy, and systemic medications are the most common psoriasis treatments.4
