Research Notes on Phenazopyridine
Phenazopyridine is a medication that is used to aleviate pain caused by urinary tract infections. It also works to help control frequent urination that may result from overactive bladder, surgery, injury, or infections. Phenazopyridine is not an antibiotic and will not cure infections. Phenazopyridine is generally taken three times each day and should be discontinued when pain disappears.1

- Phenazopyridine will sometimes change the color of urine to orange or red.2
- Common side effects of phenazopyradine include: headache, dizziness, upset stomach, and itching.2
- Phenazopyridine is sold under a variety of brand names, including: Azo-Gesic, Azo-Standard, Baridium, Phenazo, Prodium, Pyridiate, Pyridium, Re-Azo, Uricalm, and Uristat.2
