Research Notes on Peutz-Jeghers Syndrome
Peutz-Jeghers syndrome -- also known as PJS or hereditary intestinal polyposis syndrome -- is a genetic disorder characterized by the growth of polyps in the gastrointestinal tract, particularly the stomach and intestines. Individuals with Peutz-Jeghers syndrome have a high risk of developing cancer during their lifetimes, particularly in the colon, pancreas, stomach, cervix, ovaries, and breasts. Children with PJS often develop dark spots on their skin that fade as they get older.
