Research Notes on Pessary
A pessary, also called a vaginal pessary, is a device that is inserted inside the vagina and supports the vaginal wall and pelvic organs. Pessaries are used to treat conditions such as urinary incontinence, a cystocele, and a rectocele. The device can be used to avoid surgery, or until surgery is performed.1
Fast Facts:
- Pessaries can be inserted by a health care professional.2
- Pessaries need to be removed for cleaning periodically.2
- Pessaries do not cure conditions, but rather are used for management of the condition being treated.2
