Research Notes on Peripheral Artery Disease Symptoms
In many cases, the first noticeable symptom of peripheral artery disease (PAD) is painful cramping in the calf, thigh, or buttocks when walking, that goes away upon resting. Other symptoms of PAD may include cool skin in the feet, color changes in the skin, foot sores that do not heal, and burning or aching pain in the feet and toes while resting.1 The pulse in the legs or feet may also be weak or absent.2
Fast Facts:
- Many people do not experience any symptoms of PAD.3
- Men who have PAD may experience erectile dysfunction.2
- About one in 10 people with PAD have leg pain when walking.4
