Research Notes on Pentoxifylline
Pentoxifylline is a medication used to help improve blood flow through the arteries and blood vessels of the arms and legs. It is used in the treatment of vascular dementia and altitude sickness. It can also be used in the management of sickle cell disease and to help prevent strokes.1
Fast Facts:
- Side effects include loss of appetite, nausea, constipation, headache and anxiety.2
- Can have negative interactions with high blood pressure medications and potentially toxic interaction with cimetidine.3
- It takes two to four weeks for symptom relief to begin and up to three months for the drug to reach its full effectiveness.4
