Research Notes on Penis
The penis is the external male sex organ and the external organ of urination. In an average adult male, the penis is typically between 2 to 3 inches long. The organ elongates during erection and length typically varies between 6 and 8 inches.1
Fast Facts:
- Erection of the penis is due to stimulation which results in greater blood flow to the area and a constriction of those blood vessels maintain the erection.2
- It is possible to "break" the penis.3
- The human penis is different from most mammals in that it does not have a baculum, or erectile bone.4
