Research Notes on Penile Prosthesis
A penile prosthesis is one form of treatment for men with erectile dysfunction.1 One type of prosthesis consists of a pair of bendable rods implanted surgically within the penis erection chambers.1 However, many men prefer a second option which is an inflatable implant that can be used when needed but otherwise appears natural.1
Fast Facts:
- The implantation of a penile prosthesis is indicated only when patients have exhausted all other forms of treatment.2
- The inflatable implant is controlled by a pump located in the scrotum.2
- Surgery involves general anesthesia and a slightly greater risk of infection occurring.2
