Research Notes on Pediatric MRI Exam
MRI stands for magnetic resonance imaging. MRI exam is a diagnostic tool to detect changes in soft tissues such as internal organs, muscles, and cartilage. MRIs do not use harmful rays, but instead, they create detailed images based on the water content of the body tissues, with the use of both magnet and radio waves. Children who need to undergo MRI scans may have to be sedated for them to stay still. Parents should discuss with their doctors the details of MRI exams to better understand the procedure.
