Research Notes on Partridge Berry
Partridge berry (also called partridgeberry, checkerberry, winter clover, deerberry, one-berry and squaw vine) is a native American plant that has been used not only for medicinal purposes, but as a love potion, a ceremonial smoke and as a food.1 The herb has been used to treat menstrual cramps, regulate menstruation and relieve heavy bleeding.1 It has also been used to treat diarrhea and colitis.1
Fast Facts:
- Side effects associated with use include heartburn and irritation to the mucous membranes.2
- Should not be used during the first two trimesters of pregnancy.2
- Crushed partridge berries and myrrh are sometimes used to make a paste for sore nipples for breastfeeding women.1
