Research Notes on Panic Attacks
Panic attacks are a sudden intense fear or anxiety. Panic attacks can be very scary. When you have a panic attack it can often feel as though you are dying.1 Panic attacks are very common, occurring in 10% of the population. Women are more likely to have them than men.2

- Symptoms may include sweating, racing heart, upset stomach, chest pain, and dizziness.3
- The fear of having a panic attack can cause a panic attack.4
- Treatment may include therapy and medications.5
