Research Notes on Pancreatitis
The pancreas is a large gland behind the stomach and close to the duodenum. Pancreatitis is an inflammation of the pancreas, an inflammatory condition that occurs when pancreatic digestive enzymes become active with the gland and attack the pancreas itself. The pancreas plays important roles in both digestion and metabolism. These functions may be affected by pancreatitis.
