Research Notes on Pamelor Interactions
Serious negative drug interactions can occur when Pamelor (nortriptyline) is used with some medications, such as arbutamine, sibutramine, iomeprol, lumefantrine, or MAO inhibitors. Physicians and pharmacists should be aware of all medications (prescription and over-the-counter) that a patient may be taking before starting Pamelor. Also, even if health care providers are aware of the medications being taken, do not change the dosage of any medications without discussing the possible implications with a physician or pharmacist.1
Fast Facts:
- Medications which are intended to help control arrhythmia shouldn't be used with Pamelor, such as: amiodarone, dofetilide, pimozide, procainamide, quinidine, and sotalol.2
- Some antibiotics can negatively interact with Pamelor, such as: erythromycin, cisapride, and halofantrine.2
- Alcohol, antidepressants, and stimulants can also have negative interactions with Pamelor.2
