Research Notes on PMDD and Menstrual Cycle
Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) occurs beginning one or two weeks prior to menstruation and ending soon after menstruation. Symptoms must appear in almost all of a woman's menstrual cycles during the year in order to be diagnosed with PMDD.1 Women often first get PMDD in their teens to late twenties.2
Fast Facts:
- PMDD is severe enough to interfere with everyday activities and relationships.1
- Three to five percent of women have PMDD.2
- Women with major depression or bipolar disorder are more likely to have PMDD.2
