Research Notes on Oxygen
Oxygen is the eighth element of the periodic table and found in the second row (period). It is colorless, odorless, and tasteless.1 Animals and plants need oxygen for respiration and to live. Too much oxygen can be bad as well. Oxygen is the third most abundant element found in the sun.

- Oxygen is a gas when at room temperature.
- Oxygen was discovered by Carl Wilhelm Scheele in 1773.2
- Two thirds of the mass of the human body is oxygen.3
