Research Notes on Overactive Bladder Treatments
For those who suffer from an overactive bladder, it's a good idea to research all available treatment options available to fit your lifestyle needs. There are several home remedies that can help strengthen the pelvic muscles such as Kegel exercises or bladder training which includes scheduling times to go to the bathroom instead of waiting until you feel the urge to go. Other treatment methods include certain medications which help control control urination such as Enablex and Detrol.1
Fast Facts:
- Percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation and sacral nerve stimulation may also be useful in treating an overactive bladder in patients who have not responded well to medications or other treatment methods.2
- When all other options fail, your physician may recommend having a surgical procedure called augmentation cystoplasty which may lead to using a catheter to empty the bladder as a lifetime treatment method.3
- Symptoms of an overactive bladder include urge incontinence, frequent urination, and an urgent need to urinate.4
