Research Notes on Overfocused ADD
Overfocused ADHD is one of the six types of ADHD according to Dr. Daniel Amen. This type of ADHD is closely related to classic and inattentive ADHD.1 The significant difference is that people with overfocused ADHD cannot break away from a thought or idea.1 This happens because the cingulate system of the brain is overactive. It will lock the person into negative and self destructive behavior.1 People with overfocused ADHD tend to do well on a stimulant medication in conjunction with an antidepressant.2

- Dr. Daniel Amen used the symptoms of ADHD and brain scans to find the six types of ADHD.2
- Ring of fire ADHD, temporal lobe ADHD, and limbic system ADHD are the other three types of ADHD.2
