Ovarian Torsion

Research Notes on Ovarian Torsion

Ovarian torsion is the twisting of the ovary caused by another condition or disease resulting in extreme lower abdominal pain. Ovarian torsion usually only happens in one ovary at a time, but can occur in normal or enlarged ovaries and also in the fallopian tubes. Over half the cases occur in woman under the age of 30, making this the fifth most common gynecological emergency.
