Osteochondrodystrophy

Research Notes on Osteochondrodystrophy

Osteochondrodystrophy, also called skeletal dysplasia, is a term used to describe a group of over 200 disorders that are characterized by abnormal development of the bones and cartilages, resulting to short statures (dwarfism), having short limbs and normal-sized trunks. Skeletal dysplasia may also involve other skeletal abnormalities such as skull malformations, extra fingers (polydactyly), and chest malformations. Other non-skeletal anomalies that may manifest in osteochondrodystrophy are congenital cataract, myopia, deafness, hydrocephaly, heart defects and mental retardation.
