Research Notes on Orthopedic Physical Therapy
Orthopedic physical therapy is any physical therapy following orthopedic surgery. Some conditions may be helped without surgery. While very little difference exists between a physical therapist and an orthopedic physical therapist, the University of Wisconsin has a one year residency training for orthopedic physical therapists.1 Aside from sports injuries, performing artists -- especially dancers -- need special orthopedic physical therapy as well.2 Sports injuries like a torn anterior cruciate ligament are common to both the orthopedic surgeon and the orthopedic physical therapist.3
