Orlistat is a medication that is used to treat obesity.1 Orlistat works by preventing the absorption and digestion of fat in food.1 Side effects of orlistat can include oily spotting, inability to control bowel movements, an increased number of bowel movements, and gas with discharge.2 Orlistat is sometimes referred to as tetrahydrolipostatin.3 It is meant to be used in conjunction with a low-fat, low calorie diet and exercise plan.1
