How To Create WisdomCard Redirects
PLEASE FOLLOW OUR REDIRECT POLICY FOR EACH WISDOMCARD YOU CREATE OR REVIEW. THESE GUIDELINES ARE ESSENTIAL TO HELPING PEOPLE FIND WISDOMCARDS FOR THEIR HEALTH SEARCHES.
Redirects are an important way to help our users get the information they want. A redirect is a page that points to another page. For instance, if you type "high blood pressure" into the OrganizedWisdom search box, a redirect will take you to the Hypertension WisdomCard.
The procedure for creating a redirect is:
1. Choose a redirect term (see below).
2. At the bottom of the WisdomCard template, just below the Related WisdomCards section, you'll see <redirect></redirect>.
3. Between the two tags, enter your redirects separated by semicolons. Example:
<redirect>Famous Alcoholics; Famous People with Alcoholism; Celebrity Alcoholics; Celeb Alcoholics</redirect>
4. Please try to create as many redirects as make sense for every card you create, some will only have a few and some will have many.
5. Within a redirect, spaces are allowed, but newlines are not. If you're unsure of what this means, it is safer to type the redirect as Famous_Alcoholics instead of Famous Alcoholics.
6. If you enter a redirect that already exists, the system won't complain that the redirect page couldn't be created a second time. This may change...
7. Only redirects in the main (WisdomCard) namespace can be created this way.
Types of Redirects to Create
Good redirect terms help users who might not be sure what they want. Or help for commonly typed mistakes or spelling errors.
Please add the following redirects for each WisdomCard:
- Synonyms: alternate terms for the same thing, such as different names for the same disease. (Only if there is not a WisdomCard already created on this topic of course).
- Alternate spellings
- Plurals of singular titles (or singulars of plural titles)
- Abbreviations or acronyms
- Please use correct title case for your redirects
Things Not to Make as Redirects
- Please do not make a redirect to a term that is only related to the topic -- for instance, do not make a redirect for "Heart Defect" for a disease that is a type of heart defect, or "Obesity" for something that causes or treats obesity.
- Please do not make redirects of brand name drugs on generic drug WisdomCards or vice versa; we do separate WisdomCards on brands vs generics, so rather than redirects, these should be inter-links in the Research Note and/or in the Related WisdomCards section.
- Please don't make a redirect to another redirect.
- If a WisdomCard already exists for a topic, put it in Related WisdomCards rather than creating a redirect.
