No drugs can treat herpes simplex virus however, there are medicines given to patients to help reduce symptoms. Antiviral drugs such as Acyclovir (Zovirax), Famciclovir (Famvir) and Valacyclovir (Valtrex) help control herpes simplex by speeding up recovery time, preventing complications and subsequent recurrences, and decreasing the risk for viral infection.
