Olive oil is a heart-healthy food, acting to lower your risk of heart disease by lowering your cholesterol. Olive oil also contains a type of antioxidant which may help prevent osteoporosis, some cancers, Alzheimer's and diabetes. The easiest and best way to benefit from olive oil is simply to substitute virgin or extra-virgin olive oil for the saturated fats (butter, tropical oils and margarines) and polyunsaturated fats (most vegetable oils) already in your diet.
