Ocular Herpes

Research Notes on Ocular Herpes

Herpes simplex virus is a common virus that infects humans, causing cold sores. Type 1 herpes simplex primarily involves the face and eyes. The virus travels to the eyes through nerves, and rests there in an inactive, dormant state. Triggers such as stress can reactivate the virus, causing ocular herpes. Although the disease cannot be cured, an eye doctor can prescribe medical treatments to control outbreaks and relieve symptoms.
