Research Notes on Obstructive Sleep Apnea
Obstructive sleep apnea occurs when the muscles in the back of the throat relax during sleep, causing the airway to narrow or close. Breathing is briefly stopped due to this obstruction of the airway.1 This sleep disorder is often found in people who have an airway that is more narrow than normal.2
