The number of Americans who are overweight has dramatically increased in recent years. Approximately one-third of all Americans are so overweight, they are considered to be obese.1 Americans are more than twice as likely to become obese compared to their European counterparts. This statistic translates into more health problems including heart disease, cancer, and diabetes.1
Fast Facts:
- 16% of active duty U.S. military personnel were considered obese in 2004.2
- Mississippi is the state with the largest number of obese people.2
- America's obesity rates are the highest in the world.2
