Obesity-Associated Acanthosis Nigricans

Research Notes on Obesity-Associated Acanthosis Nigricans

Acanthosis Nigricans (AN) is common among patients with obesity. It is found that high levels of insulin can cause acanthosis nigricans. It is characterized by skin darkening and thickening of body parts such as the armpit, neck, elbow, groin, and abdomen. Weight reduction, healthy diet, and regular exercise can decrease the levels of insulin in the body, while reducing discolorations of the skin.
