Research Notes on Obama Health Care Criticism
President Obama recently appeared before the American Medical Association (AMA) to defend a proposal to provide public healthcare. The AMA has been urging Obama to address his reasoning for unnecessary testing, physician referrals, and hospital stays. Obama is requesting urgent action but believes critics will attempt to stop his efforts by using "scare tactics and fear mongering".1
Fast Facts:
- One of the health plans up for debate will cost more than $1 trillion dollars over a 10 year span, and still leave over 10 million people uninsured.2
- The AMA is critical of socialized medicine.2
- The budget office has estimated that those with employer-provided health insurance will decline by at least 10% (15 million people).2
